MuWire 1.0.0 roadmap

Post by zlatinb »

Hello everyone,

after almost 3 years of coding agony/ecstasy I finally see a clear path towards a 1.0.0 release. I'm quite happy with the current feature set of MuWire and while there's a lot of missing polish there's not going to be any big changes until after 1.0.0.

The tentative roadmap is the following:

1. The 0.8.x series will continue for a short while - 3 to 6 months. This is your chance to convince me to add any small pet features that you want.
2. The 0.9.x series will be for stabilization. I plan to release 4 times a year in tandem with the OpenJDK security updates by Oracle. I expect this phase to last a year to 18 months
3. When the I2P router team is happy with SSU2 I'm going to release 1.0.0 and move away from rolling releases. 1.0.x will be the "stable" branch that only gets updated for security reasons. Some other version number, maybe 1.1.x will mark the start of development of new features.

Thanks for everyone's support over these 3 years, I would not have made it without you. Grab yourself the latest beta from https://muwire.com/beta.html and enjoy MuWire!

An update from me:

Over the next 1-2 years I will be gradually winding down my involvement in MuWire and all other worldly activities. After that I plan to apply to a monastery. If accepted, I will most likely not be allowed to use the internet.

That means MuWire will need a new maintainer! I've tried to make it as easy as possible for anyone to spin off their own MuWire network, but to my knowledge nobody has done so yet. So if you're interested in a very rewarding hobby, do let me know! :)

Next door, someone claims that you have already folded your tents and left the village. If this is true, this forum would be the right place for a short message from you to confirm or deny.
Addendum, I see an identical message from zab at zzz: Resigning and shutting everything down
