I2P Updates February 28, 2020

Post by sadie »

0.9.45 Release

0.9.45 contains important fixes for hidden mode and the bandwidth tester. There's an update to the console dark theme. We continue work on improving performance and the development of new end-to-end encryption (proposal 144).

As usual, we recommend that you update to this release. The best way to maintain security and help the network is to run the latest version of I2P.

Monthly Meeting

The I2P team welcomes everyone to attend next Tuesday for the monthly
community meeting.

Topics will include planning for the 0.9.46 release, as well as the status and future of Android, and git migration. The early stages of git migration from mtn have started after many conversations at 36c3. A 6 month target for the switch over was originally discussed. Build scripts, build docs, default tunnel, user docs, and website auto-updater all need to be changed.

When - Tuesday March 3 at 8pm UTC IRC Channel #i2p-dev on IRC2p network.

Full topics list for the meeting can be found here viewtopic.php?f=17&t=916

Usability Lab

I2P will be working with OTF Usability Lab to further explore improving UX of /home on the console, as well as I2P identity. This will continue until mid to late June.
Upcoming in March will be both console and website architecture sprints and identity and values workshops. Synthesis and documentation for these tasks will be shared once completed. This is a very exciting opportunity to work with Ura and Simply Secure to continue to address project usability and on focus and definition of I2P’s technology. Look for blog posts and updates here as we share insight from the process in the upcoming weeks.

New I2P Wiki

A big thank you to everyone who has been updating the new wiki! Sign up and help build the I2P community knowledge base, or access resources here:

I2P Browser

I2P browser development is on hiatus. The continuation of this project will depend on the reevaluation of resources needed to take it further. Thank you to everyone who has been testing and providing feedback on the beta releases. It is obvious that there is a need for this product! A formal announcement will be made next week.

I2P in Private Browsing Mode for Firefox

An exciting project that is looking for testing and feedback, I2P in Private Browsing Mode is a web extension which intends to make I2P browser configuration easier to use I2P securely and add features for making I2P apps easier to use.

Upcoming Conferences

The Invisible Internet Project will be attending IFF, PEPR, and RightsCon.

Notes from zzz’s Forum

Last call: Java 7, Wheezy, Jessie, Precise, Trusty

Either the current release (0.9.45) or the next one 0.9.46, will be the last one that supports Java 7.
This means we will not have any newer official packages in our PPA or Debian repo for Wheesy, Jessie, Precise, and Trusty.
Anybody still on Java 7 will not be able to install with our official installers, and will not be able to automatically update.
You may still be able to build it yourself, if you have the required backport packages.
This is driven by minimum JRE requirements for our package dependencies, in particular Jetty. Our source code itself will remain Java 6 or 7 compatible because of Android.

Proposal: ECIES-X25519-Ratchet-AEAD

All testing and meetings happen in IRC #ls2. Meetings are Mondays at 6:30 PM UTC. All are welcome!
