The I2P team was mostly all in attendance at 35c3 in Leipzig. Daily meetings were held to review the past year and cover our development and design goals for 2019.

The Project Vision and new Roadmap can be reviewed here: https://geti2p.net/en/get-involved/roadmap

Work will continue on LS2, the Testnet, and usability improvements to our website and console. A plan is in place to be in Tails, Debian and Ubuntu Disco. We still need people to work on Android and I2P_Bote fixes.

0.9.38 Release

We will have a set up wizard for first time installations! As it was pointed out in the results from our usability study last year by Ura Creative, there was some ambiguity for new users doing a first time installation. People had a difficult time figuring our where to find documentation for proxy set up and clarification needed to be made for the user about adjusting bandwidth. Ura suggested that we have a bandwidth test and better explanations about adjusting bandwidth.

Our new first time installations flow for the wizard includes:

-Language selection
-Bandwidth test
-Bandwidth configuration
-Proxy set up link to instructions on project website

We hope that this will improve the installation process, and will be working this year on more usability studies for I2P services.

Windows / Firefox Profile

An eepsite is a website that is hosted anonymously, a hidden service which is accessible through your web browser. It can be accessed by setting your web browser's HTTP proxy to use the I2P web proxy, port 4444, and browsing to the site.
To make that easy, the Firefox browser profile is pre-configured to work with I2P. While you can use any browser to access I2P sites, using a dedicated browser profile keeps your I2P browsing activity separate from your clearnet activity. This profile also includes the NoScript plugin which protects you from malicious Javascript and the HTTPSEverywhere plugin which adds additional layer of encryption.

Finally, Mac users will have a smoother experience installing I2P. I have tested it and I love it. Cheers Mikal for your hard work and headaches!

The console will have a new background gradient for the light theme. Our icon update hit some snags, but we have a solution now and will continue work in .39.

"Ransack.i2p is only accessible via I2P - so you keep being anonymous and this eepsite cannot get or pass any private information about you.
This is a "meta" search engine, so it aggregates the results from external search providers such as Google, DuckDuckGo, Qwant, etc. You may choose them in "preferences" -> "engines". You can set "safe search" options there, too (the deafult is Moderate).
