I2P Weekly Update - April 6th, 2018

Post by sadie »

NTCP2

The updated proposal was posted: https://geti2p.net/spec/proposals/111-ntcp-2
There will be a meeting on Monday, April 9th at 4pm UTC
Join us on IRC #ntcp2 to follow along with the conversation.

I2pControl: Proposal to bundle I2pControl

Most, if not all TODOs have been covered. There is very little left to do to pull it into the core install. Note that aside from deciding to do it , we would need a JSON lib for DNS over HTTPS (see https://trac.i2p2.de/ticket/2201).

Wanted: Bug Fixers: Android, Bote

I2P needs to move forward with fixes and improvements for Bote, Android and the Console.

Bote tickets can be found here: https://trac.i2p2.de/query?status=!clos ... r=priority
Our friends at Whonix recently said in a tweet that "Bote is the future of usable and secure mail mixnets"
(https://twitter.com/Whonix/status/976525656451436545) Please help us with the usability and privacy improvements Bote needs!

Android tickets can be found here: https://trac.i2p2.de/query?status=!clos ... r=priority

If you have questions, please ask on IRC #I2p-dev

We Are Still In Need of a Tails Maintainer

The following will give anyone who is interested in taking on this task an idea of what would be required. These guidelines are from a post made on forum back in 2016 that I have partially copied. If anyone has more information or if you see an error, PLEASE let me know so that I can update this post.

General Notes:
- Register for an account on Tails' bug tracker: https://labs.riseup.net/code/projects/tails
- Register for an account on I2P's bug tracker: http://trac.i2p2.i2p
- Join tails-dev mailing list
- Keep an eye on Tails' release calendar
- Keep an eye on open Tails/I2P tickets
- Make sure the latest stable I2P works with the upcoming Tails release.

Prerequisites:
- Latest Debian installed and working.
- I2P up to date and working.

Process:
1. Build Tails, see https://tails.boum.org/contribute/build/
NOTE: You'll need to figure out which branch to use; it may be "devel" or "testing" or "freeze" depending on the Tails development cycle.
2. Obtain latest I2P Debian package from http://deb.i2p2.no
3. Boot Tails and enable I2P at boot (add "i2p" option at boot menu)
4. Test I2P implementation and make sure it works
5. Test all I2P functionality that's enabled in the Tails release, see Tail's I2P design document above
6. If everything works as expected, create a ticket on Tails' bug tracker ("Import I2P x.y.z") and assign the ticket to the Release Manager, see
https://tails.boum.org/contribute/calendar/
7. Set ticket status to "QA Status = Ready for QA"
8. Tails maintainers take it from there

Thank yo to everyone in the I2P community for your continued support!
